Slain Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, is set to return to the stage in the form of a hologram, with his father Balkaur Singh saying the family would “keep him alive” until his younger son, ‘Nikka Sidhu’, also named Shubhdeep Singh, grows up and begins performing.Moosewala is set to become the first Indian artiste to have a hologram world tour. Similar tours have been organised for the likes of Tupac Shakur, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Roy Orbison in the past. Titled ‘Signed to God World Tour’, the series will feature shows in Canada and the US, with the first show scheduled to be held in Toronto on October 9.“I have given permission to a promoter to hold the shows. The first phase will have 10 shows. All singers who had collaborated with Sidhu will also perform,” Balkaur said.The singers are expected to include Jattvibeny Malton, Gulab Sidhu, Raja Kumari and Bohemia, among others. The entire show will last around 100 minutes, of which Moosewala’s hologram performance will account for around 20 to 25 minutes.“Our family, including me, my wife and Nikka Sidhu, will also go to the shows. We will keep him alive on stage at least until Nikka Sidhu starts to perform on stage. He is just about two-and-a-half years old and will begin attending school from the next academic session,” Balkaur said in an exclusive conversation with The Tribune.The tour will use hologram technology to recreate Moosewala’s stage presence through his original songs, cinematic visuals and live stage effects.A 42-second teaser of the tour was released in March. The official website, signedtogod.world, carries the tagline “Hale Mukeya Nahi Sidhu Moosewala”.The tour is expected to cover eight countries, India, Pakistan, the US, Canada, the UK, the UAE, Australia and New Zealand. The shows will be held in Toronto October 9, in Vancouver on October 15, in Calgary on October 19, in New York on October 23, in Houston on October 30 and in Oakland on November 6.Balkaur said the family still had several unreleased recordings of Moosewala. “He recorded songs wherever he went. When there are only two paragraphs, we collaborate with another singer or rapper, while songs with at least three paragraphs are released solo,” he said.He said the latest song, ‘Ghostface Killah’, was also recorded long ago. “The song is already a hit online. I have unreleased songs stored in some pen drives. A number of people are still giving me the earlier recorded songs,” he said.Rejecting the use of artificial intelligence to recreate Moosewala’s voice in songs, Balkaur said, “This is impossible. AI cannot generate the same voice. Fans will immediately notice if such a thing is done. All songs are in the original voice of Sidhu.”So far, 13 posthumous songs by Moosewala have been released by his team on YouTube and other platforms.Moosewala was shot dead at Jawaharke village in Mansa district on May 29, 2022, at the age of 28. Fugitive gangster Goldy Brar is an alleged mastermind in the case, while gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is among the key accused.
