Bathinda police on Wednesday arrested a Hindu organisation activist, identified as Sandeep Kumar Pathak, a resident of Thermal Colony here, for allegedly sharing and misusing a confidential letter issued by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Security (Secret Cell), regarding Y+ category security allegedly granted to him by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Besides, an unidentified police official has also been booked in connection with the matter.Meanwhile, a police officer, requesting anonymity, said that the letter in question was issued in the name of Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who had recently left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, but the Bathinda address was mistakenly mentioned in it.“The question arises as to how the letter, which contained a clerical error, reached him when he had not even applied for Y+ security. This is a confidential document,” he said.The FIR under Section 316(5) of the BNS, Sections 3(1)(b)(c) of the Official Secrets Act, and Section 72 of the IT Act has been registered at the Civil Lines police station on the orders of the SSP.DSP City-II Arun Mundan said, “An FIR has been registered for processing and sharing a secret document. Two persons, including Sandeep Pathak and an unknown police officer, have been booked. Sandeep has been arrested.”Meanwhile, as per a copy of the FIR in possession of The Tribune, the letter dated May 11 in question reads: “Security of Sandeep Kumar, Bathinda. The Ministry of Home Affairs (VIP Security Unit), in consultation with the central security agency, has decided to provide Y+ category CRPF security cover to the protectee mentioned in the subject matter. In this regard, you are requested to initiate the necessary liaison and ensure the area security of Sandeep Kumar, Thermal Colony, Bathinda, through CCTV, PCR halt point, etc. Please confirm compliance.”Further, the FIR mentioned that the secret letter was shared by an unidentified police official with Sandeep Pathak, who then allegedly shared and misused it.
