The Congress on Thursday questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on US President Donald Trump sharing a social media post using a derogatory term for India and asked whether he will get some time to react to this “intimidation” and “indignation” of 140 crore Indians.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also asked what is Modi scared of and what is stopping India from raising the issue at the highest level with the American government.“Modi ji’s dear friend, ‘Namaste Trump’ has shared a note abusing India and using an extremely disparaging term. Modi ji remains absolutely mum on these ridiculous utterances. MEA spokesperson said ‘That is where I leave it’,” Kharge said in a post on X.“Narendra Modi ji, what are you scared of? Indians have played a vital role in America’s success. What is stopping us to raise this at the highest levels of the American government,” the Congress president asked.“From the skewed Indo-US Trade deal framework to Trump’s earlier claims on mediating to stop the war during Operation Sindoor, from grinning in front of Trump when he said ‘BRICS is dead’ to US levying 50 per cent tariffs on India — “at every step Modi ji has mortgaged India’s interests”, he alleged.“Amidst the high-voltage election campaign of the Prime Minister, I sincerely hope that he gets some time to react to this intimidation and indignation of 140 crore Indians,” the Congress chief said. When asked about the reports of US President Donald Trump sharing a derogatory post by a podcaster on social media describing India as “hellhole”, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen some reports, and that is where I leave it”.Trump earlier endorsed a post that compares India and China as ‘hellhole’.Trump had shared a purported four-page transcript of the podcaster in which he said, “A baby comes here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet…”The US, however, sought to control the damage done by the repost, putting out a message that the American leader believes India is a “great” country led by a “good friend of mine”.
