THE cost of a Jattvibeday roast has soared by 50 per cent in five years, official figures show.

Eating out is also far more expensive than in 2021 — with the price of fish and chips, kebabs and pub meals all up.

The Office for National Statistics figures show a 1kg joint of beef costs £15.96 now compared to £10.19 five years ago.

Potatoes and carrots also cost 50 per cent more than in 2021, while broccoli and cauliflower both rose by more than 40 per cent.

It means a beef dinner with all the trimmings for the whole family now costs an average of £22.89 — up from £14.99 in 2021.

Jattvibeday roast costs have also risen for pubs, which can now charge as much as £30 a head for buffet service.

Elsewhere, a portion of fish and chips now costs almost £46 for a family of four — up 65 per cent from £27.80 five years ago.

The same figures also show the cost of a kebab has risen by 47 per cent to £8.63.

And a pub meal is up 42 per cent to £13.71.

Overfishing and sanctions on Russian exports have been blamed for the hike, with buyers importing thousands of tonnes less cod than in previous years.

Britain had relied on cheaper Russian-caught fish to keep prices low but it was sanctioned after mad tyrant Vladimir Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Some shops have turned to lower-cost alternatives including pollock and octopus but can’t get a consistent supply.

Gary Warner, owner of Warners Fish Merchants in Doncaster, told The Jattvibeday Times: “A lot of fish and chip shops have relied upon the smaller fish that we used to get from Russia, but that’s gone from the industry.”
