In the sensational murder case of a Canada-returned youth, the court of Sessions Judge Sanjiv Joshi on Saturday dismissed the regular bail application of a key accused, Veerinder Kaur alias Inder. The applicant, a 27-year-old resident of Faridkot, is facing serious charges of criminal conspiracy linked to the murder. While rejecting the plea, the court observed that the allegations against the applicant are grave in nature, pointing toward a well-planned conspiracy that culminated in the victim’s death. The case traces back to November 29, 2025, when an FIR was registered at Police Station Sadar Faridkot following the death of Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Village Sukhhanwala. The FIR was lodged on the statement of the victim’s sister, Manveer Kaur.According to the prosecution, Gurwinder was married to Rupinder Kaur in November 2023. After the marriage, Rupinder moved to Canada but returned in January 2025. The marital relations between the couple were highly strained.Hours before his death on November 28, 2025, a panicked Gurwinder had called his sister and brother-in-law via WhatsApp, expressing intense fear for his life. He disclosed that his wife was having an illicit relationship with one Harkanwalpreet Singh of Bathinda and expressed apprehension that the duo, along with a friend, might eliminate him to grab his land and property.Later that night, Gurwinder’s body was found on the roof of his house, and gold ornaments were found to have been stolen from the almirahs. While the primary accused, Rupinder Kaur and Harkanwalpreet Singh, were arrested initially, the applicant, Veerinder Kaur alias Inder, was nominated as an accused on December 19, 2025, following a breakthrough statement by the victim’s maternal aunt, Jasvir Kaur.During the bail hearing, the counsel for the applicant argued that Veerinder was innocent, was not named in the initial FIR, and had been falsely implicated 20 days after the incident based on a delayed statement by a close relative. It was also argued that the trial would take considerable time. However, Additional Public Prosecutor Surinder Sachdeva, strongly assisted by the complainant’s counsel Kulinder Singh Sekhon, vehemently opposed the bail. They argued that the offence was highly severe and releasing the accused at this stage could lead to her absconding or tampering with vital prosecution evidence.Taking into account the gravity of the offense, the prima facie material connecting the applicant to the murder conspiracy, and the current stage of the trial, Sessions Judge Sanjiv Joshi declined to extend the concession of regular bail to the accused.
