TWO-thirds of children referred to the Government’s anti-terror scheme are being sent back to schools.

Her report said some might obsess over weapons, idolise notorious attackers or share videos of beheadings and suicides.

Others may share extreme ­pornography or encourage peers to self-harm.

She said: “Simply returning children, without a clear understanding of what is driving their behaviour or who will be responsible for meeting their needs, risks missing opportunities to provide the right support.”

“Dame Rachel demanded a “stronger safeguarding response”.

And she suggested kids feared to pose a risk be assessed by local safeguarding teams, with counter-terror cops involved if needed.

Prevent referrals involving children have risen from 2,918 in 2016-17 to 4,715 last year.

The Government said they are reviewing Dame Rachel’s report alongside their work in response to the Southport inquiry.

They added: “Every Prevent referral is assessed thoroughly.”
