DAVID RAYA narrowly avoided a nasty accident after his medal got tangled in the goal net following Spain’s World Cup victory. 

Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the game in the 106th minute, denying Argentina the opportunity to retain the title.

As the party began for the Europeans, the Arsenal keeper had climbed up the posts to celebrate and snip off what was left of the net as a memento. 

But as the Spaniard – who did not make an appearance at this World Cup – attempted to come back down, his gold medal snagged in the netting.

The Spain No1 was left hanging awkwardly for a split second as the ribbon around his neck tightened, with the medal refusing to come free.

Raya quickly realised what had happened and managed to unhook it before dropping safely back onto the turf to continue the celebrations.

The 30-year-old could then be seen laughing off the incident as Spain’s players soaked up the moment after becoming world champions.

The European champions created by far the better chances throughout.

Meanwhile the holders spent much of the game trying to break up play before Enzo Fernandez was sent off moments before extra-time.

Torres finally made Spain’s dominance count in added extra time.
