A daytime firing incident at the BMS Fashions showroom in Santokhpura triggered panic in Jalandhar on Friday. Two bike-borne youths allegedly targeted the showroom around 3.30 pm, firing two shots at the glass panes near the entrance, which were shattered instantly.The showroom owners had reportedly received a ransom call a day earlier. Owner Subhash Chander said his son received a call from an unknown number on Thursday at 5 pm, which he did not answer. The callers later called him via WhatsApp and demanded Rs 50 lakh, he said.Chander said, “We reported the matter with Rama Mandi Police Station and also brought it to the notice of the office of Police Commissioner Jalandhar. Today, they fired gunshots. Just two hours after the incident, they called him up again to say that he may have complained to the DSP or the SP but they need money. They again raised a demand of Rs 50 lakh. My son received this call in the presence of the police teams that were still inspecting the site.”On the status of the security guard at the showroom, the owner said, “He was inside the showroom at that time having his lunch when the incident occurred. Thankfully, he is safe. I, too, was not at the showroom when the incident occurred.”ADCP Investigation Jayant Puri said, “We have so far recovered one shell from the site. Our teams are still investigating the matter and taking statements from the showroom owners. Our team including those from the PCR, SHOs and ACPs had arrived immediately after we got a call in the control room. We are working to crack the case.”
