Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence for raping two disciples, walked out of the district jail at Jattvibeariya village in Rohtak on Tuesday after being granted a 30-day parole.He will stay at the dera headquarters in Sirsa during the period. This marks his 16th parole since his conviction in 2017. Gurmeet exited the jail premises at 6:35 am in an SUV amid tight security.He reached the dera headquarters around 8.30 am. He attended the routine satsang and interacted with followers for nearly an hour. Followers were seen celebrating his arrival despite the intense heat. A devotee, Balveer Singh, said a special “bhandara” would be organised at the dera on May 31.Dera spokesperson Jitender Khurana said the parole was granted under routine jail rules and not for any special reason. “Convicted prisoners are entitled to up to 70 days of parole annually based on conduct. Ram Rahim had earlier availed 40 days of parole in January-February this year, while the remaining 30 days have now been granted,” he added.Khurana confirmed that Gurmeet Ram Rahim would stay at the dera in Sirsa. This is the second time this year that the dera chief has been granted parole. In January, he was released on a 40-day parole and participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of Satnam Singh, the second spiritual head of Dera Sacha Sauda, observed annually on January 25 at the dera headquarters in Sirsa. The event is considered the organisation’s biggest annual gathering, attracting a large number of followers from across regions.The Dera Sacha Sauda has a number of followers in various districts of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and other states. He was awarded the jail term by a special CBI court in the rape case in August 2017.Earlier, he was released on a 40-day parole in August 2025, which he reportedly took to celebrate his birthday. In addition to that parole, he was granted a 21-day furlough in April and a 30-day parole in January, ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly polls.Similarly, he was allowed a 50-day furlough in January 2024, 21 days in August 2024 and 20-day parole in October 2024 before the Haryana Assembly polls.The dera head was released for a day for the first time in October 2020, then on a 12-hour parole in May 2021, both times to visit his ailing mother. He was later released for 21 days in February 2022, 30 days in June 2022, 40 days in October 2022. Thereafter, he was released for 40 days in January 2023, 30 days in July 2023, 21 days in November 2023.
