The US Navy’s blockade of ships entering or exiting Iranian ports will continue, US President Donald Trump said on Friday night.Trump delinked the opening of Strait of Hormuz, announced by Iran on Friday, from the US Navy’s ongoing blockade that started on Monday. The US President posted on social media saying the Strait of Hormuz is “completely open and ready for business” but US’s naval blockade of Iran would remain in place until a deal with Iran is reached.“The naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete,” Trump said, adding that this process “should go very quickly” as most points have been negotiated. The chances of the US lifting the naval blockade were never particularly high, as the Trump administration sees that as a way of putting more pressure on Iran, analysts said.Meanwhile the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran said the Strait of Hormuz transits now require IRGC permission.  A senior Iranian military official told state TV that vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz would require IRGC permission.Separately, Reuters said that all commercial vessels, including US-flagged ships, were permitted to pass through the strait, while naval vessels would not be granted transit.Earlier on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi posted on X announcing the opening of the Hormuz.  “In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran,”The US Central Command, tasked with ensuring the blockade, posted on X, “Since commencement of the blockade, 19 ships have complied with direction from U.S. forces to turn around and return to Iran. Zero vessels have evaded US forces during the blockade.”Maritime tracking firm Kpler said the first loaded Iranian oil tankers had left the Gulf since the US blockade. It said three Iranian oil tankers had become the first loaded vessels to leave the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz since the US blockade came into force. These ships are carrying a combined five million barrels of crude. The US imposed the blockade on Iranian ports on Monday in a bid to stop Tehran exporting oil.
