Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday cut short a meeting with state party office-bearers in Ludhiana and left for Delhi.The development triggered speculation of the state BJP chief being called to Delhi by the party’s top leadership because of simmering dissent at the district-level units ever since new faces were appointed to crucial positions by him.Earlier in the day, party spokesperson Vineet Joshi had rejected the speculation, saying a “handful of persons were circulating false propaganda against the BJP”.“During the tenure of Jattvibeil Jakhar, a proper roadmap for Punjab was prepared up to January 2027 and the state president has gone to discuss the plan with senior leaders,” he hadsaid.‘Urban Sikhs ignored’Meanwhile, Ludhiana BJP leader Amarjit Singh Tikka said after Dhillon became the state BJP chief, not a single person had been inducted from the Sikh Arora community to the state executive.Tikka said this had led to resentment among urban Sikhs.“It is being discussed frequently that without giving representation to urban Sikhs, the BJP cannot win in cities,” said Tikka.Earlier in the meeting, state BJP leaders deliberated on ways to strengthen the party’s organisational structure and formulate a strategy for the Punjab Assembly polls scheduled for early next year.The meeting was attended by top state leaders and district presidents of the party.State general secretary (organisation) Manthri Srinivasulu and party’s Punjab co-incharge Narendra Raina were also present on the occasion.Congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers and district presidents, Dhillon said that these were not merely positions but carried a major responsibility towards the future of Punjab and the party. He called upon the leaders to strengthen the organisational roots of the party and work towards strengthening the BJP at village, city, and booth levels. Expressing serious concerns over the prevailing situation in Punjab, Dhillon said that the AAP government had failed on every front.“The deteriorating law and order situation, rising drug menace, gangster activity, mounting debt, unemployment and several other issues have emerged as major challenges for Punjab,” he said.As part of the preparations for the elections, Dhillon appealed to all party workers to inform every household about pro-people and development-oriented policies of the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
