The UK’s biggest energy company is offering customers FREE electricity at the weekend by cutting down their usage during the week.

Octopus Energy will give customers one hour of free electricity every weekend in October if they shift when they use their devices.

There will be two one-hour sessions per week throughout the month where customers can to cut back on their usage, by not using devices like washing machines or dishwashers during those times.

In return, they will get one hour of free electricity at the weekend as a reward.

You can choose from a selection of one-hour slots to use your free weekend electricity.

Or, you can save them up and use them at a later date, until October 31.

To take part, you must be an Octopus customer and be signed up to its Octoplus rewards programme.

You must also have a working smart meter and be signed up to Savings Sessions.

The energy giant gave away free electricity through a similar scheme during the solar eclipse last week.

Over 794,000 customers took part in the scheme.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief customer officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Nearly a million Octopus customers switched off, enjoyed the skies AND earned free electricity during the eclipse.

“And we’re keeping good times flowing with the launch of Weekend Happy Hours – till the end of October, use less for two hours during the week and get one whole hour of power free every weekend.”
