England have been drawn as the home side for the match and will therefore be expected to wear their white shirts.

However, almost two-thirds of fans believe the team should wear red at the tournament.

Red has traditionally been the colour England has worn as their alternate strip.

A study conducted by Jet2 has revealed that 62 per cent of fans feel more confident in the team when wearing red.

Further research has supported fans beliefs with England typically winning more in red shirts.

England also score more goals in red with 1.5 goals per game compared to 1.4 in white.

The nation’s only penalty shootout success at a World Cup same in 2018 against Colombia – when they were wearing red.

Sports psychologist Dan Abrahams, said: “Elite football is played under intense pressure, and mindset can make a real difference to how teams carry themselves.

“Across sport, there are examples of champions and championship-winning teams wearing red, which only adds to the colour’s competitive association.

“It signals intensity and an assertive energy, helping a team look and feel stronger from the word go.

“A kit’s colour is part of the identity a team steps into, so wearing red could give the England squad a powerful psychological narrative, becoming a vital part of a player’s armoury – one built around belief, presence and the confidence to compete.”

Jet2 will be helping people on their holidays this summer and also wear red in their uniforms.

The beliefs of fans should not come as a shock as the research also shows that over a third think they can “jinx” a match.

Superstitious fans believe that not sitting in the same place or wearing a specific colour can have an effect.

Jet2 chief customer officer David Hills said: “At Jet2 we are famed for our winning red team, so we thought now would be a great time to get the views of the nation on wearing the colour red.

“The response to the study is very interesting as it shows that people clearly associate wearing red with success and winning as a team, so perhaps now is the perfect time for England to line up in red.

“As our customers will testify, nothing beats the winning red team, so why not see if there can be another team in red enjoying major success this summer?”
