ENGLAND’S players are being powered by a special recovery gizmo throughout this gruelling World Cup.
Sporting giants Rory McIlroy and Cristiano Ronaldo are huge investors in the technology and McIlroy even wore it as he won the Masters for a second straight year.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will wear the WHOOP device on their wrists throughout training out in the States.
They were spotted sporting the tech during their first session at West Palm Beach out in Florida on Tuesday for their warm-up camp before the real action kicks off later this month.
WHOOP is a gadget that tracks health metrics 24/7, such as heart-rate variability, resting heart rate and sleep performance.
It will be the squad’s primary recovery monitoring tool this summer- in a tournament that will push them to the limits with red-hot conditions and endless travel.

England are basing themselves in Kansas City throughout the competition, flying back and forth for their matches.
Their three group games take place in Dallas (vs Croatia, June 17), Boston (vs Ghana, June 23) and New Jersey (vs Panama, June 27), meaning they will play across multiple time zones.
They could also play at altitude in the knockout stages in Mexico City or Canada.
Tuchel has already spoken of how all teams will “suffer” at this tournament due to the travel and heat, but England hope to help mitigate that with the wristband tools.

The boffins at WHOOP claim that on days where their users travel or have jet lag, their heart-rate variability can drop 12.5 per cent, sleep performance can fall up to six per cent and sleep consistency can plummet up to 19 per cent.
Having the stats from the devices on the England players will hopefully allow Tuchel’s medical and performance staff to see in real time which players are coping and which need additional recovery support on travelling days.
The intention is that the extra technology will allow the Three Lions staff to make smarter calls on training loads, sleep scheduling and daily readiness rather than solely relying on player feedback.
It is not the first time England have turned to digital developments to aid their performance.

At Euro 2024, boss Gareth Southgate and several players, including Conor Gallagher, John Stones and Marc Guehi, wore an Oura ring, a smart device which monitored daily healthy metrics to help maximise fitness.
That was the same tournament where players, including Kieran Trippier, also drank pickle juice to help fight cramp.
