Maddy, played by returning star Alexa Demie, is seen casually filming a TikTok on an iPhone 16 – a model that wasn’t released until 2024.
In the beach scene, she stages an impromptu photoshoot, but when reviewing the snaps, the noticeably newer handset gives away the error.
The slip-up didn’t go unnoticed, with fans quickly taking to X, formerly Twitter, to call out the timeline blunder.
One wrote: “set during the pandemic with an iphone 16???”

Another added: “a 2020 storyline but an iphone 16 in her hand.. oh cuz I was wondering”
And a third fumed: “the concept of having a scene set in 2020 then showing a girl using an iphone 16 to make a tiktok.”
Others branded the mistake “lazy” as the show’s attention to detail was called into question.
Filmmakers usually have a crew member called a script supervisor whose job is to make sure everything matches from shot to shot.
They keep detailed notes and photos to track props, outfits and even which hand a character is holding something in – all to avoid mistakes like modern items appearing in older timelines.
When blunders do slip through, it’s often down to reshoots at a later date when the prop is no longer available, time pressure or simple oversight.
This slip up on Euphoria comes as the Season 3 premiere drew 8.5 million U.S. viewers across HBO and HBO Max in its first three days of streaming.
Euphoria’s third season saw a massive spike in ratings, despite backlash over Sydney Sweeney’s controversial sex scenes

Euphoria is a US-produced series available to stream on the newly launched HBO Max.
The series starring Zendaya follows a group of high school teenagers as they navigate a world full of sex, drugs, and drama.
While the show has racked up millions of fans worldwide, it has also been accused of glamorising drugs by some critics.
There were also complaints following a controversial sex scene involving Sydney Sweeney’s character.
For much of the episode, Cassie wore a dog collar and ears and acted like a dog by crawling around on all fours.
Fans were livid about Sydney’s character’s evolution in the show’s five-year time jump and found her storyline “degrading.”
However, it was recently revealed that Sydney was more than willing to film the sultry scenes and even wore pieces from her own lingerie collection, Syrn.
Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer and Colman Domingo are also among the cast who’ve returned for Season 3.
A similar continuity slip happened in Game of Thrones when a Starbucks takeaway cup was accidentally left in shot during a medieval feast scene.
Viewers immediately mocked the blunder, joking that it was a “Starbucks in Westeros” moment.
The mistake went viral within hours, and HBO later edited the cup out.
