After being disallowed entry into Canada at the Toronto airport. SAD national spokesperson Parambans Singh Bunty Romana said on Saturday a false complaint from a man based in Manila and conspiracy by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had led the Canadian immigration authorities to stop him at the airport. In an interview with The Tribune and later addressing mediapersons, Romana said he would take legal action against the complainant from Manila and AAP for launching a fictitious and malicious campaign to tarnish his image after he was stopped at the Toronto airport last month and forced to return to India.Romana said it was one thing to target someone politically, but it was another to cast aspersions on one’s character. “Certain media reports and a spokesperson of the AAP spread the rumour that I was disallowed entry as I was too drunk. I say this on record here: I am a teetotaller. I will not take this defamation lying down.”He said when he landed in Toronto in a delayed flight around 10.30 am June 11. “They also informed me that a complaint and a dossier of cases against me had been sent from Manila, alleging I posed a threat to public safety in Canada, as I had previously been booked for threatening a government official in Punjab,” he said.Romana explained that he was visiting Toronto to meet his daughter, attend a close family friend’s wedding and interact with the Punjabi diaspora. “If they call it political activity, I call it social activity. I had no intention of violating Canadian laws,” he added.AAP refutes chargeBunty Romana’s claims were nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from the real issue, said AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu. “It is absurd to suggest that AAP or the Punjab Government has any control over Canadian immigration authorities or can influence their decisions,” he said.
