The Faridkot Central Jail is facing intense scrutiny following the suicide of a murder convict on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, marking the third such incident in the jail in the last 10 days.​The deceased, identified as Balwinder Singh, son of Tara Singh, was a resident of Kathgarh village in Fazilka. Singh was serving a sentence for a murder case registered 11 years ago at the Sadar Police Station in Jalalabad.​According to the jail authorities, the incident occurred late on Monday night. Balwinder Singh allegedly hanged himself using a cable in the bathroom of his barrack.​He was found in an unconscious state and rushed to the Civil Hospital, Faridkot, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.​Both the jail administration and the Faridkot City Police Station have launched a formal investigation.Jugnu Baba, a resident of Ludhiana, arrested in a 2023 dacoity case, was found hanging from a barrack grill last week.On May 3, Swarnjit Singh, a resident of Ferozepur who was involved in a nine-year-old drug smuggling case, also died by suicide in the jail here.This latest death highlights a growing mental health and security crisis within Faridkot Modern Jail.
