The Faridkot Central Jail is facing intense scrutiny following the suicide of a murder convict on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, marking the third such incident in the jail in the last 10 days.The deceased, identified as Balwinder Singh, son of Tara Singh, was a resident of Kathgarh village in Fazilka. Singh was serving a sentence for a murder case registered 11 years ago at the Sadar Police Station in Jalalabad.According to the jail authorities, the incident occurred late on Monday night. Balwinder Singh allegedly hanged himself using a cable in the bathroom of his barrack.He was found in an unconscious state and rushed to the Civil Hospital, Faridkot, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Both the jail administration and the Faridkot City Police Station have launched a formal investigation.Jugnu Baba, a resident of Ludhiana, arrested in a 2023 dacoity case, was found hanging from a barrack grill last week.On May 3, Swarnjit Singh, a resident of Ferozepur who was involved in a nine-year-old drug smuggling case, also died by suicide in the jail here.This latest death highlights a growing mental health and security crisis within Faridkot Modern Jail.
