The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) today held a demonstration against the India-US trade deal in Kurukshetra, and said that the deal will hit the agriculture sector of the country hard. The farmers had gathered at the Jat Dharmashala for the state body meeting of the union. After the meeting, the union members, led by BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh, held a demonstration and burnt the effigy of the US delegation arriving to discuss the deal. The farmers raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the India-US Trade deal. They said that the deal will have a negative impact on the agriculture sector of India and the farmers will not allow the government to implement the deal at any cost.BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni said, “A state body meeting was called to discuss the issues related to the farming community. During the meeting, it was decided that the union will strongly oppose the US delegation coming to India during its four-day visit from June 1 to discuss the trade deal. It has been decided that similar protests will be held across the state at the district headquarters level on June 4. The farmers will burn the effigies and mark their resentment with the trade deal.”“The India-US Trade deal will only benefit the US and it will only cause losses to India. The farmers and the agriculture sector of the country will be badly affected if the deal is implemented. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently warned about the financial crisis, and the deal will further worsen the condition of India. The farmers’ unions will not allow the government to implement this deal,” Charuni said. The farmers’ union will hold a three-day camp (from June 6) in Uttarakhand, where the union leaders from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and other states will decide the future course of action regarding the trade deal.  “Duties have been assigned to the union leaders to start preparations. We are in touch with the leaders of some other unions as well, so that a big movement can be started to stop the government from implementing the deal. We have already held meetings with some unions in Haryana, and soon the meetings with the unions of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh will be held. The unions will launch a massive movement at the national level,” Gurnam Singh said.
