Security agencies were put on high alert after the Ferozepur district court complex received a bomb threat on Wednesday, just two days ahead of the Independence Day function. Acting swiftly on the information, the police had the court premises evacuated and launched an extensive anti-sabotage operation.Teams of the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad conducted a thorough search of the court complex and adjoining areas. The premises were cleared of people as police personnel carried out checks at different locations to rule out any possible threat.Court proceedings were kept suspended until 1 pm as a precautionary measure. Further action was to be decided after reviewing the security situation and the completion of the search operation.Station House Officer, Cantonment, Sukhbir Singh said the police had thoroughly checked the court premises, but no suspicious or objectionable material had been found so far. He said security personnel have been deployed at the court complex and all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent any untoward incident. He added that the police would not allow any anti-social element to disrupt security arrangements.The incident has raised concern among security agencies, as this is reportedly the third bomb threat received by the Ferozepur district court this year. The repeated threats have prompted authorities to maintain heightened vigilance around the court complex.Officials have not yet disclosed the source of the threat or details of the investigation. Further clarity is expected after the completion of the security checks.CM Mann scheduled to hoist Tricolour nearby – The threat assumes added significance as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to hoist the Tricolour during the Independence Day function on August 15 at a site behind the court complex.With the threat coming just two days before the scheduled celebrations, security agencies have stepped up surveillance and are carrying out detailed checks in and around the area. Authorities are also reviewing the security arrangements for the Independence Day program to ensure there is no lapse. As per information, Gaurav Yadav, DGP, is also scheduled to visit today to take stock of the security arrangements ahead of Independence Day.The police said the situation was under control and appealed to people not to panic or pay heed to rumours.
