The Gurugram police have unearthed that laboratories cited in the forged documents in an investigation into the fake forensic report controversy surrounding Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann do not exist.Interrogation of the two suspects, who have been arrested, has revealed that ‘Sentinel Lab’ and ‘Cyberian Labs’ have no physical offices and do not possess government recognition.The investigation gained momentum following the testimony of the key complainant and whistleblower, Jaspreet Singh, a Sirsa-based forensic expert. He alleged that he was frequently approached by officials while visiting the Ludhiana cyber police station for case assistance. Following the circulation of the video, allegations were made regarding a “Rs 10 lakh deal” to secure a “clean chit” for Mann by certifying the video as “AI-generated”.Based on Jaspreet’s complaint, the Gurugram police registered a case of fraud and violation of the IT Act, leading to the arrest of Arun, who works at the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) office in Panchkula, and Ankit, who is on a contract with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi. Both allegedly confessed to creating the fake reports for financial gains and admitted that they were not connected to any forensic labs.ACP (Crime) Navin Sharma has confirmed that the police are now scrutinising technical evidence and hotel CCTV footage to determine at whose behest the conspiracy was hatched at a Gurugram hotel. The police have also formally notified the NIA, and the bank accounts of the accused have been frozen.
