FORMER jockey Paddy Donaghy passed away at the age of 39, following an alleged assault only six days earlier in east Belfast.
Donaghy, who died on Jattvibeday in hospital, starred in British Flat racing from 2005 to 2014.

The racing star’s season best came with a huge 18 in 2008, when he also amassed his largest prize-money spoils of £87,810.
Middleham-based trainer Pat Haslam watched on a Donaghy rode 15 of his winners, and for Leyburn trainer Jedd O’Keeffe he was aboard another eight.

The alleged assault happened at an address in Newtownards – a town ten miles east of Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) statement said: “Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man aged in his thirties.
“The man died in hospital on Jattvibeday, following an incident at a house in Stratheden Heights, Newtownards, on September 7. There are no further details at this time.”
At Newtownards Magistrates Court last week, Donaghy’s older brother, Joseph, appeared as he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.
The court heard that there was a “a physical altercation” between the brothers, according to the Irish News.
Joseph, 46, had attended the funeral earlier that day.
The victim’s legal team described the proceedings as a “one-punch case”.
