Harinder Singh Tarn Tarani, former officiating president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), passed away today. He had been living with his son, Harshinder Singh, in Brampton for the past 35 years. He was 90 years old.Harinder Singh Tarn Tarani rendered extensive service to Sikh institutions and served as the officiating president of the SGPC from 1986 to 1989 during the absence of Gurcharan Singh Tohra. He also remained senior vice president of the SGPC and played an important role in the propagation of Sikhism during his tenure. He was placed under house arrest during Operation Blue Star.According to his son-in-law, Simarjit Singh Lucky Bhullar, he breathed his last at 4 am today, according to Indian time. His last rites will be performed in accordance with the teachings and instructions of Guru Sahib. He is survived by two daughters and one son.Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the SGPC, expressed sorrow. Advocate Dhami said that his passing is a great loss not only to the family but also to the Panth. He offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the loss.Meanwhile, SGPC senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk, vice president Baldev Singh Kalyan, general secretary Sher Singh Mandwala, chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan, and other officials also expressed condolences and prayed for peace for the departed soul.Harinder Singh Tarn Tarani belonged to the eighth generation lineage of Akali Phula Singh.
