The Bareta police have booked four persons, including an ex-sarpanch, for trying to kill Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former zila parishad member Dalvir Singh, alias Kala Jawandha, who sustained a bullet injury to his abdomen outside his commission agent shop in the grain market of Bareta town on Monday night. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ludhiana.Gyaneshwar Sharma, SHO of Bareta police station, on Thursday, said, “Acting on the statement of the victim, we have registered a case against Rajvir Singh, alias Raju; Ravi Sharma of Kulrian village; Gurmeet Singh, alias Meeta, of Datewas village; and Ravi of Bareta village. The victim alleged that Rajvir wanted to illegally grab some land in Kulrian village and hatched a conspiracy with Ravi to kill Kala. He identified Gurmeet as the shooter. He further claimed that Ravi and Gurmeet had conducted a recce before opening fire.”The SHO said efforts were underway to arrest the accused. “Both Rajvir and Kala had an old enmity,” he said. Rajvir is an ex-sarpanch of Kulrian village.Budhlada MLA Budh Ram has not been booked in the case. Notably, while speaking to The Tribune on Wednesday night, Kala had alleged that the MLA had orchestrated the attack and claimed that he had given a statement against him to the police, too. However, the police said there was no direct role of the MLA in the crime.The MLA had on Wednesday refuted the allegations and claimed that if there was even a single evidence against him, he would resign from his post. Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal had backed Kala’s allegations and demanded action against the MLA.
