POT LUCK: You can try having a container garden by repurposing old pots or pans for the plant holders.

Many allotment associations welcome volunteers to help with weeding, watering and harvesting — and in return you can take home fresh veg and learn the ropes.
Search for local allotments or garden societies in your area, and it’s also worth searching for local retirement homes as many are looking for help to maintain gardens for residents.
JOIN THE CLUB: The Royal Horticultural Society helps you find local community gardens, where you can make use of shared tools and know-how.
You can even grow your own produce and share in the harvest.

PLANT PLAN: If you have absolutely no windowsill or outdoor space, easy-care plants will still freshen up your home.
Pick up a spider plant, peace lily or pothos from supermarkets, local markets or online marketplaces.
Many people propagate their own plants and sell them cheaply, or you could swap plants with your neighbours.
Check Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace or Freecycle for the best deals.
