Anti-NEET protests may regain momentum in the next few days at Jantar Mantar, according to intelligence inputs received by the Delhi Police. The inputs suggest that the impending agitations are likely to be a manifestation of a general perception among the youth that Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke is being deliberately hounded through RTIs over his foreign stint.Earlier this week, a Surat-based RTI activist Amit Tiwari had sought an investigation into the finances of Abhijeet’s father Bhagwanrao Dipke, questioning how a junior engineer’s salary could have paid for his son’s higher education in the US.According to intelligence inputs cited by sources, some youngsters believe that Dipke is being unnecessarily hounded through such queries regarding his financial and economic background, which are aimed at maligning his image and paint the agitation in poor light.Sources further said that with the strong likelihood of the impending protests to be staged in or around Jantar Mantar, passenger movement around key metro stations like Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Seva Tirth (earlier known as Udyog Bhavan) and the Central Secretariat may get impacted just like last month, when the CJP-led agitation against the NEET paper leak had gone on for more than a month.The intelligence inputs came amid Dipke’s warning on August 3 that a sit-in would be held if their demands were not met.Speaking to agencies, Dipke questioned the government’s intent, stating that the Centre had not yet paid the Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of the NEET-UG aspirants, who had died by suicide.Dipke said, “We want the government to do this (fulfil the demands agreed upon); otherwise, we will have to protest again. We had also demanded Rs 1 crore each as compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who had allegedly died by suicide. None of the families has received the compensation from the government.”“The government has said that it will have to look into the rules and regulations regarding this. When you have to buy MPs/MLAs, you spend crores of rupees, but to give compensation, you need to first check the rules. It means their intention is not right,” Dipke added.A compensation of Rs 1 crore was one of the key demands of the CJP apart from seeking education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and withdrawal of FIRs against agitating students.The CJP had withdrawn its 37-day-long protest from Jantar Mantar on July 25 after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and they had received an assurance on their other key demands. Dipke added that they did not support the appointment of Pralhad Joshi as the new Union Education Minister.The CJP leader said, “Our demand was the resignation of the education minister, and it was met. But in place of him (Dharmendra Pradhan), who was appointed the Education Minister? It was Pralhad Joshi. He was seen garlanding the rapists of Bilkis Bano. Imagine how the school going girls will feel on seeing such things. So, we do not support this.”
