A 50-year-old factory worker from Jalandhar has become an overnight sensation after his voice reached global audiences through Coke Studio Bharat. Ashok Maskeen, who resides in Maqsudan area of Jalandhar, has sung ‘Bulleya ve’ which has earned him 18 million views. Awed by the response and getting calls from Mumbai, he has now left his job as factory worker to make a big buck from his passion.Maskeen said that even though he had been a singer from his childhood and had even taken lessons from famous Punjabi singer Ustaad Sabar Koti, it was social media now that has changed his fortune. “For nearly a year I went on foot and after that I continued going by bicycle and kept learning from him consistently. Though my guru is no longer in this world to see my fate changing, I owe everything to him”.He said many people in the music industry have contacted me. “I have an offer for a song in a Hindi film. My shows are also being booked”, he said sitting along with his wife and two teenage kids at his modest house.
