JORDAN SPIETH left fans stunned after three-putting from inside 4ft in a horror display at The Open.

The American was hoping to make a name for himself at the 154th edition, nearly ten years since he won at Birkdale.

But the 32-year-old suffered a nightmare after failing to convert a simple putt from just 3ft 11 inches.

On his first attempt, Spieth watched the ball hit the edge of the hole before spinning away.

Spieth spent some time kneeling down and sizing up the hole before the same thing happened again.

He eventually sank the put at the next try as he was accused by the commentator of “throwing away shots”.

And it proved to be costly as Spieth missed out on the cut for the weekend by finishing on +10.

Fans couldn’t believe what they were watching as they admitted his showing gave them “the yips”.

One said on X: “Gruelling Watch… Jordan Spieth has the yips.”

Another wrote: “He’s too good of an athlete to miss all these putts.”

A third added: “Gave me the yips just watching him.”

And a fourth chimed in by saying: “That hurts to watch.”

Others called him “absolutely finished” as one claimed he “used to be the best putter in the world”.

Spieth came into The Open after missing just two cuts of 18 tournaments he’s played in this year.

He joined big names like Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland and reigning US Open winner Wyndham Clark in missing out.

It came after Bryson DeChambeau had a meltdown on the course after being accused of improving his lie.

DeChambeau was presented with TV evidence and taken in a buggy to the scene of the offence after hitting a shot from Royal Birkdale’s worst no-go areas.

A heated argument broke out after the American suggested he could QUIT the entire tournament, saying: “I’m not playing tomorrow.”

He eventually emerged from the meeting with rules officials still fuming, but refused to talk to reporters before heading to the driving range to vent his frustration.
