PRINCE Harry has been slammed by a former minister for contacting the Home Secretary about his security arrangements.

Former Home Office junior minister Mike Tapp hit out yesterday after a newspaper reported that Harry had been in touch with Shabana Mahmood “pleading for answers”.

The Duke of Sussex wants to know whether he and his family will receive police protection when they move back to the UK by the end of the month.

The outcome of a review ordered by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) has still not been shared with Harry — who lost a legal battle with the Home Office last year — despite it being carried out last month.

The Telegraph reported yesterday that Harry contacted Ms Mahmood saying he felt “numbed” by his long-running battle to get protection for his family.

The paper also said that he and Meghan’s short- notice decision to return was due to the sudden availability of places at a school where their children, Archie and Lilibet, had been on a waiting list.

Sharing a link to the article, Dover and Deal MP Mr Tapp said: “Decisions about protective security should be based on a clear-eyed assessment of the threat they face.

“I don’t presume to know what the outcome should be for Prince Harry.

“But having worked in national security, I strongly believe the only relevant consideration should be the assessed level of threat.

“Professionals should be allowed to reach that decision independently.”

Yesterday we told how a decision on Harry’s security could be forced to the front of the queue — ahead of other VIPs — now he is returning to the UK.
