Haryana wheelchair cricket team has once again scripted history on the national stage by storming into the grand finals of the prestigious National Wheelchair Cricket Championship 2026 – Super 5, currently being held at Shaheed Vijay Pathik Stadium, Greater Noida, under the aegis of the Wheelchair Cricket India Association (WCIA) and the Differently-abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI).After dominating the North Zonal championship against powerhouse teams from Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, Haryana earned qualification for the elite Super 5 stage featuring the best wheelchair cricket teams from all five zones of India. Representing the nation’s top cricketing talent were Andhra Pradesh from the East Zone, Uttar Pradesh from the Central Zone, Karnataka from the South Zone, Mumbai from the West Zone, and Haryana from the North Zone.Now, Haryana has successfully emerged as one of the top two teams of India and secured its place in the much-awaited finals scheduled for May 9.Haryana began its Super 5 campaign with authority, defeating Andhra Pradesh by 32 runs in their opening fixture. Despite suffering a narrow defeat against Mumbai in a thrilling last-over encounter, the Haryana side bounced back in champion fashion.The team then defeated Uttar Pradesh by 13 runs in a high-pressure clash before producing a spectacular performance against Karnataka in the decisive semi-final-style encounter.Chasing a mammoth target of 198 runs in 20 overs, Haryana showcased fearless batting and unmatched composure by comfortably chasing the total in just 18.2 overs, sending a strong message to every contender in the country.The star of the evening was Haryana’s explosive all-rounder Romaisar Wani, who delivered one of the finest innings ever witnessed in wheelchair cricket. Romaisar smashed an unbeaten 99 runs off just 47 balls, dismantling Karnataka’s bowling attack with sheer confidence and precision. His breathtaking innings earned him the prestigious Man of the Match title and left spectators in awe of Haryana’s batting depth. He was brilliantly supported by Naserul Gaffar’s 23 runs in just 10 balls and Dinesh Rana’s vital 23 runs in 24 balls.Haryana’s bowlers too displayed exceptional discipline and control throughout the innings, ensuring Karnataka never gained complete command despite posting a strong total.The Haryana squad has been carefully selected through rigorous district-level selection trials conducted across Haryana under the leadership of HWCA Chairperson Tarang Kashyap and HWCA President Anurag Kashyap. The team is currently being led by Captain Balram Kaushik from Sonipat, alongside a highly talented group of players including Deepak Chahal, Vedpal, Dinesh Rana, Jagir Singh, Joginder, Ajay Rana, Naserul Gaffar, Romaisar Wani, Vikram Nath, Sachin Dua, and Brijesh Rathore.Ravi Kant Chauhan, General Secretary of DCCI, personally congratulated the Haryana squad for making it to the finals and praised the discipline, professionalism, and consistency shown by the team throughout the tournament.
