Spence was standing at the back of the room before he was introduced by England‘s press officer as a “trainee reporter”, which left Rogers in stitches.

Rogers said: “Hello mate,” as Spence replied: “Morning Morgs.”

Spence then asked: “There’s been a lot of speculation in recent weeks about who’s the fastest in the England squad.

“Is it true Djed Spence is the fastest in the squad?”

The question brought a chuckle of out Rogers, who responded: “Let’s just say I wouldn’t bet against you in a race.

“But there’s a couple saying they might have you – Anthony Gordon being one of them.

“So I’d like to see that race. We’ll see who wins, but yeah I wouldn’t bet against you.”

The debate over the fastest England player in the squad has raged on all summer, with strong claims from Spence, Gordon and Marcus Rashford.

Spence himself clocked in the fastest speed of any England star after the opening round of fixtures at the World Cup.

The right-back came on during the 4-2 win over Croatia and put in some gut-busting runs, clocking a speed of 35.2km/h.

Spence has featured in every game at the tournament so far, starting in the 0-0 draw against Ghana and the 2-1 win over DR Congo.

Rogers, meanwhile, started the 2-0 win over Panama and has come on as a sub in three other games.

The pair both played in England’s heroic 3-2 win over hosts Mexico at the Azteca to book a quarter-final spot.

England face Erling Haaland and Co in Miami but there has been some concern over searing temperatures.

There have been fears about looming thunderstorms in the area, a factor which delayed their game against Mexico for an hour.

Fifa rules state that lightning within eight miles (13km) of the stadium will lead to suspensions in order to protect players and fans.

Emergency warnings are in place and play will be delayed by half an hour every time there is a fresh strike within the perimeter.

The game is set to kick off at 10pm UK time and local temperatures are forecast to be around 33 degrees celsius.

But with the added humidity, it’s set to feel like a staggering 44 degrees.
