KEY INFO

How many are still left in the tournament?

There was finally something to cheer on Tuesday, June 30.

Katie Swan became the first British singles winner of the Championships, beating Romania‘s Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4, 6-4.

But the joy was tempered by another blow, as Katie Boulter went down 6-4, 6-2 to Italian qualifier Tyra Caterina Grant.

It leaves Swan as the only British woman remaining in the singles.

Eight British singles players began the day in the draw, but Harry Wendelken was the first man to fall, beaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 by France‘s Valentin Royer.

Wildcard Pinnington Jones returned to complete his suspended match, trailing 28th seed Brandon Nakashima, but lost 6-3, 7-6(7-5), 7-5.

As of 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 30, that left six British singles players still standing.

They are Swan, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Toby Samuel, Jan Choinski, and Billy Harris.

The five men are all in first-round action across the day, so the number may well change as results come in.

Swan, meanwhile, will next face the winner of Kayla Day v 26th seed Madison Keys.

Who has the best chance at Grand Slam glory?

None of the Brits left in Wimbledon 2026 are seeded title contenders.

With Norrie, Draper, Raducanu, and now Boulter all gone, Britain’s big guns are all out of the singles.

The remaining men in the draw are all long-shot hopes, every one ranked outside the world’s top 100.

And Swan, currently ranked No. 196, carries the British women’s singles hopes alone into round two.
