Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda on Friday said the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha and Sikh community leaders should intensify their struggle for the release of ‘Bandi Singhs’ by launching a ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.Expressing solidarity with the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha, leaders and supporters of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee have been staging a one-hour token dharna at Miri Piri Chowk in Kurukshetra since September 11.The committee has decided to continue the daily dharna until September 30 and submit a memorandum to Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena on October 1, addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding the release of the ‘Bandi Singhs’.Committee members and supporters will also participate in a march called by the morcha in Punjab on October 2.HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “The release of Sikhs who have completed their sentences has been a long-pending and genuine demand of the community, but it has not been fulfilled. The ‘Bandi Singhs’ have been in jail for over 30 years, and they have not been released. We have extended our full support to the Morcha in its struggle, and we request the government to release the ‘Bandi Singhs’. Only dharnas and marches will not put much pressure on the Central Government. Hence, I have suggested that the Morcha leaders launch a Jail Bharo Andolan to put pressure on the government and secure the release of Sikh prisoners.”“The continued detention of Sikh prisoners even after they have completed their sentences is unfortunate. While the Sikh community and the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha are struggling for the release of the ‘Bandi Singhs’, people such as Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh are repeatedly granted furloughs for political gains. The Morcha should call for a Jail Bharo Andolan, and members and leaders of all gurdwara management committees and political parties should come forward to offer their arrests. The Andolan should be launched at the earliest in Punjab so that the release of the ‘Bandi Singhs’ can be secured ahead of the Punjab elections,” he added.HSGMC member and Panthak Akal Morcha leader Harmanpreet Singh said, “Expressing solidarity with the Morcha, we have been holding a one-hour token dharna daily in Kurukshetra. We will submit a memorandum to the Kurukshetra DC on October 1 and participate in the march in Punjab on October 2. We also request the government to consider the genuine demands being raised by the community.”
