Dame Julie Andrews played Mia’s grandmother Queen Clarisse Renaldi and a sequel was released in 2004.
Now Anne – who is gearing up for the release of Devil Wears Prada 2 – has revealed a third Princess Diaries film is her next priority.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: “One hundred percent, we’re constantly working on it.
“[Devil Wears Prada 2] cropped up unexpectedly and took over the space – it became impossible to focus on both at the same time.”

Confirming that she plans to get a third Princess Diaries film in production next, Anne opened up about the struggles of getting the script right for a movie in such high demand.
She said: “If I learned anything from [Devil Wears Prada 2], it’s that expectations are very, very high.
“If you’re going to do it, you have to knock it out of the park.”
The first movie was a huge success and grossed £122 million at the box office.
Anne also starred alongside Chris Pine, who played Mia’s love interest Nicholas Devereaux.
In a separate interview this week, Anne became emotional when she remembered the film’s late director.
She told People: “I miss Garry Marshall so much.” Anne added that playing Mia “changed my life”.
When looking at a photo of Mia’s famous makeover scene in the movie, Anne said: “I’m standing next to Julie Andrews, which is just insane…
“I just remember everything about this, but looking at it, I’m seeing so much more than I was able to take in at the time.”
