Bhadaur police in Barnala district have arrested a leading aircraftman (LAC) and seized 3.015 kg of opium allegedly from his possession near the bus stand of Jangiana village.The accused has been identified as LAC Simratpal Singh, resident of Butala village in Amritsar, as per an identity card recovered from his possession. According to the police, he had arrived in the area by bus allegedly to supply narcotics when he was apprehended.Harsimranjit Singh, SHO, Bhadaur police station, said, “The accused is currently on two-day custody with us. He has been serving in the Air Force for about 15 years.”The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and are investigating the source of the contraband as well as possible links to a wider drug network. Further investigations are underway.Barnala SSP Mohd Sarfaraz Alam said they were verifying the authenticity of the identity card recovered from the accused.
