A New Zealand-based NRI woman has accused her husband of drugging her and kidnapping her five-year-old son and stealing her passport, cash and other vital documents.The incident occurred at a Sarai near Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh (popularly known as Shaheeda Sahib) on June 9 when the family had come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and Shaheeda Sahib Gurdwara.Following the complaint of the victim identified as Ramanpreet Kaur, the Division B police have registered a case of theft and drugging her against her husband identified as Sukhdeep Singh, a resident of Wellington, New Zealand.In her complaint, Ramanpreet Kaur, who originally hailed from Jalandhar, said she married Sukhdeep Singh in November 2019.The couple later settled abroad and have a son, Sahibjot Singh.She alleged soon after marriage, her husband, father-in-law Gurmeet Singh, mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur and brother-in-law Gurdeep Singh began harassing her for dowry, demanding gold and a car.She claimed that she endured repeated physical and mental abuse both in India and New Zealand.On June 8, 2026, her husband reportedly brought her and their son to Amritsar on the pretext of visiting Golden Temple and Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib.The family stayed at a sarai near the shrine.The complainant stated that on June 9 night, her husband gave her milk allegedly laced with intoxicants, causing her to lose consciousness.She alleged when she regained consciousness the next morning and found her husband and son missing.She said when she contacted him via WhatsApp, he initially claimed to be at Darbar Sahib and promised to return, but later switched off his phone and disappeared.She alleged he fled with their child and took her Indian passport, about 2,000 New Zealand dollars, Aadhaar card, driving licence, bank cards and other documents.She alleged after searching for them in Golden Temple and Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib in Amritsar, she visited her in-laws’ home near Bhogpur in Jalandhar district, but found it locked. Her mother-in-law expressed ignorance about her husband’s whereabouts.Following her complaint, the Amritsar police have registered an FIR under Sections 123 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 305 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Baljinder Singh, station house officer, Division B police station said that investigations have been started and the process of issuing a Look out circular (LOC) against Sukhdeep Singh while roles of other family members will also be ascertained.a
