A 52-year-old Indian national has been arrested in Australia after being accused of sexually assaulting a fellow passenger during an international flight from Singapore to Perth.According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the incident took place on a Scoot Airlines flight earlier this week, reports New York Post. The accused, identified in court documents as Sudhir Kumar Chauhan, is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman seated next to him while the aircraft was en route to Australia.Authorities said the woman immediately alerted the cabin crew after the alleged incident. In response, airline staff relocated her to another seat and monitored the situation for the remainder of the flight while informing law enforcement officials on the ground. When the flight landed in Perth, police officers boarded the aircraft and detained the passenger. He has since been formally charged with sexual intercourse without consent and multiple counts of indecent acts without consent, according to the AFP.Bail has been refused for Chauhan, reports The West Australia. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Friday. Australian authorities have not released further details about the identity of the victim, in line with standard legal protections for complainants in sexual assault cases.AFP Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal said the case underscores the importance of passenger safety on commercial flights. He noted that all passengers have the right to feel secure while travelling, particularly in the confined space of an aircraft. He also urged victims of in-flight offences to immediately report any such incidents to cabin crew, airport security, or police whenever it is safe to do so.Authorities emphasised that any form of inappropriate or non-consensual behaviour onboard aircraft is treated seriously and prosecuted under Australian law.Scoot Airlines has not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the incident.
