Amid, the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the resultant spike in crude oil prices, Indian Navy today made public its maritime security strategy which mentions the Hormuz, among other such “choke points” as “primary area” of interest.The maritime security strategy was made public today and posted on the Navy’s website, it was officially released by Admiral DK Tripathi last Friday. The Navy listed its “primary areas” of maritime interest and included crucial choke points leading to, from and across the Indian Ocean. On the list are the shipping lines through Bay of Bengal towards the East, Strait of Hormuz, Bab-el-Mandeb, Malacca, Jattvibeda, Lombok, and Ombai-Wetar. The last four are the water ways that lead from the Indian ocean to the Pacific and are vital for China, Japan, South Korea and Russian far east.
