Murrell falsified expense claims and doctored invoices as he hid his lavish spending on stolen SNP funds from those around him.
The disgraced former party chief executive nervously twitched and pursed his lips as he listened to prosecutors detail his 12 years of offending.
And the court heard how he used his direct access to the Nats’ bank account and accounting software to abuse his position.
He stole cash given to the SNP in membership fees, donations, and even pilfered from legacies left to the party by dead supporters.

The hearing also revealed the infamous campervan – bought by Murrell in 2021 – was driven only four miles before being parked on his mother’s driveway.
But he filled it with luxury goods including Le Creuset kitchenware, Joseph Joseph kitchen implements, an Alessi teapot, and Molton Brown toiletries.

The court heard how he had told SNP employees and auditors that the purchase – which he had changed to read a “van” on official documents – would be used to campaign in the 2021 election.

But lawyers said he had chosen to add luxury additions such as sat nav, security, tracking and a TV.
The motorhome also had no campaign materials, no SNP “paraphernalia”, and was not branded.
The court heard: “It was configured exactly as a motorhome used for pleasure would be.”
