Gloucester Services, located just off the M5, has been crowned the UK’s best motorway service station for the third time in five years.

The consumer watchdog has repeatedly named it the ‘gold standard’ of service stations, giving it the number-one ranking in major national customer surveys in 2021, 2025, and 2026.

Nestled into the side of the Cumbrian hills, it features a farm shop with more than 130 local producers – all of which are sourced less than 30 miles away.

The on-site cafe and restaurant also produce all meals from scratch daily, where kids eat for just £1.50 when bought with adult-sized hot meals.

Owned by Westmorland, the family-run business opened in 2014 and invests “to bring positive change to the community” through its partnership with the Gloucestershire Gateway Trust (GGT).

The award-winning site has over 40 EV chargers, a dog-walking trail and outdoor community spaces overlooking Robinswood Hill.

The service station has no fast-food chains or franchises.

Instead, it features a butcher’s, deli and cheese counter with a range of specialty cuts and charcuterie, as well as a patisserie and gelato stand.

One visitor even named it “the perfect place to breakdown”.

Which? also gave the business five stars across cleanliness, accessibility and quality of outside spaces.

Coming in second was Tebay Services, also owned by the Westmorland Family, with Rugby Services, Cairn Lodge Services and Leeds Skelton Lake Services placing in third, fourth and fifth.

All top-performing stations ranked highly in customer satisfaction, clean amenities and a good range of shops and facilities.
