Sikh priests on Thursday appealed to officiating Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj to issue an edict against the state’s AAP government for using “inappropriate wording” in the recently enacted anti-sacrilege law. They said it amounted to the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib since it was considered a living guru.A congregation of Sikh priests was held under Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami. Sikh preachers, grathis and members of gurdwara management committees took part in it.The gurdwara panel chief said many words used in the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act were against Sikh sentiments and demanded that the government re-examine the wording.“Necessary amendments should be made after discussions with Sikh institutions under the patronage of the Akal Takht,” he said.Dhami said the sacrilege law was not only a direct interference in Sikh institutions, it was also creating doubts in minds of people.Golden Temple head granthi Giani Amarjit Singh objected to the wording of the Act. He said the use of word “store” to describe the place for keeping Guru Granth Sahib was against Panthic sentiments. He said according to Sikh tradition, words Sukhaasan and Sachkhand Asthan are used to enshrine Guru Granth Sahib. He said the Sikh scripture was considered a living guru and it had got its own terminology, and other set of words could not be accepted in any way.
