JAMIE Laing and Sophie Habboo have revealed they fell victim to a ‘well known scam’ which led them to lose nearly £1k.
The married couple spoke on their NewlyParents podcast and revealed that the scam actually took place on their doorstep.

Jamie said: “I had to pay £900 for someone to clean our stone,” while looking shocked.
Sophie then jumped in and added: “The best part about it is that next week the stone is getting ripped out and new stone is being put in.”

The married couple then discussed the scam, which involved someone ringing their doorbell and charging them a hefty sum to clean their patio.
Sophie shared: “He was Irish and he said ‘hey I’m going to be making some noise at that house over there down the road.’ We’re just cleaning.”

She said the man then offered to do a tester on one of their stones, to which she agreed, while adding: “I could hear him cleaning and then he knocked on the door and said ‘look here, this is the stone.’”
Sophie said that the stone was sparkling after the man had done his work to it.
He then told Sophie that in order to clean the stones it would be £4.50 per each stone, so Sophie asked for the total amount.
The man told her that the cleaning machine counts the square feet so he’ll only know the final cost once he’s finished.
Sophie explained that it was at this point that she went upstairs and got £30 because that’s how much she expected it to be.
Jamie then jumps in and says he could hear Sophie chatting away to them, adding: “They told me ‘you need to pay us now,’ showed me the calculator and it was £900.”
There were gasps in the studio as Jamie told the story.
“I went ‘sorry what?’,” added Jamie, continuing: “Sophie just left the front the door and went into the kitchen.”
Sophie added: “Yeah I just went and sat in the kitchen because I thought oh I’ve really f****d here.”
It follows another home related drama for the couple, after they were woken up to four police officers banging on their front door at 1am.
Jamie revealed: “The police came to our house, I’m not even going to sugar coat it, I need to get this off my chest.”
Sophie added that there were also sniffer dogs barking and she thought: “My baby’s sleeping!”
The couple explained that something woke them up and the police told them that someone had broken in next door and they needed to get into their home.
Jamie said: “I’m not going to say who it is, but we have a high-profile person living on our street. So we were like, “Okay, this is mega”. I was terrified. It was pretty scary.”
Sophie continued: “We were both there like, “What’s going on?” They looked in our garden.
“They jumped over the gate. They were like, ‘Don’t worry about it, mate’. They go out. No one’s there.”
Jamie continued: ‘I was s******g myself. I was terrified. These guys came into the house. It’s like policemen in your house. It was quite intense.”
Once the police officers left, Jamie rushed after them to come back and search their basement and check for anything suspicious.
They returned with sniffer dogs, Jamie said: “That Alsation. Good luck taking that dog on. If that chased after you, I would play dead on the ground.
“It was so ready to take anyone down that its owner was, like, holding it back. It was enormous.”
Jamie added: “Anyway they checked the whole house. No-ne was there . No-ne had broken in. It was a complete false alarm but it was absolutely exhilarating.”
