Bye generation
IT’S nothing short of a national disgrace that almost a million young people are not in work, education or training.
A generation has been failed by a Government which has turned welfare dependency into a modern-day plague.

Youngsters who leave school declaring themselves too anxious to find a job risk falling into a life on state handouts.
Former minister Alan Milburn admits it is “shameful” that 25 times more is spent on benefits for 16 to 24-year-olds than on helping to get them into work.
He blames schools, welfare, health and skills systems for letting promising futures go to waste. But it’s also a catastrophe of Labour’s own making.
It has failed to bring the £330billion benefits bill under control.

And the number of entry-level jobs has shrunk since the minimum wage and employer NI contributions were ramped up, and workers’ rights expanded.
This summer, thousands more youngsters will be looking for work after their final exams.
Without a change of course, it’s inevitable that many will join the cycle of unemployment and despair.
Handout Andy
ANDY Burnham revels in his image as a working-class King of the North.
Yet the wannabe PM has hoovered up a jaw-dropping £17,000 in freebies, including posh tickets for football, concerts, Glastonbury and the Brit Awards.
If that wasn’t enough, the Manchester mayor clocked up nine foreign jaunts in just two years, more than any other metropolitan leader.
Keir Starmer was branded “Free Gear Keir” after he was gifted thousands of pounds worth of suits and designer specs. It looks like King of the Complimentaries Burnham has started early.
So much for change.
Cancer SOS
CATCHING cancer early is the single most effective way to save victims’ lives.
Treatment is often simpler, more effective, and dramatically boosts survival.
Screening for many cancers is now routine and successful. NHS scanning trucks picked up 10,000 cases of lung cancer, most still in the early stages.
Health chiefs must show the same determination in tackling prostate cancer.
A national screening programme would prevent thousands of men dying needlessly from this silent killer.
Think it’s over..
THE final whistle has blown on another rollercoaster Premier League season.
After a nine-month marathon of agony, ecstasy and VAR-induced rage, it’s time to draw breath and relax.
Well, until the World Cup in a fortnight.
