A female Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Faridkot’s Dogar Basti was suspended after a video showing her 5-year-old granddaughter tied to a gate in the scorching heat surfaced on Wednesday. The accused, Sarbjit Kaur, was posted as a ‘Mahila Mitra’ (Women’s Help Desk) at the Sadar Police Station. According to local reports, she allegedly tied the young girl’s hands and feet and left her outside the house gate for several hours.Police said the child’s parents are currently living in Portugal, leaving the girl under the care of her grandmother. The cruelty came to light when neighbors noticed the child crying in the sun. When they attempted to intervene and knocked on the door, Sarbjit initially refused to open it. Eventually, as residents tried to free the girl themselves, the ASI reportedly came out and took the child back inside the house. As the video of the incident went viral on social media, the Faridkot Police administration took swift action. SSP Faridkot, Dr Pragya Jain, took serious note of the brutality and issued immediate orders to suspend the ASI.DSP Tarlochan Singh confirmed the suspension, saying a preliminary investigation is under way.“The behavior shown toward the child is completely unacceptable. We have reported the matter to the Child Welfare Committee for further legal proceedings,” said Singh. The Child Welfare Committee has also started an independent probe.
