EFL legend Billy Sharp has been released by Doncaster Rovers, who confirmed the news after announcing their retained list.
Sharp, 40, returned to Doncaster for a third stint in 2024 and amassed a total of 68 goals and 20 assists in 197 impressive appearances, which saw him helping the club win promotion to League One last season.

But Rovers confirmed the striker will leave in June when his contract runs out just before Saturday’s final game of the season at Peterborough.
The ex-Sheffield United star will be departing the Eco-Power Stadium along with Zain Westbrooke, Ben Close, Joseph Sbarra, Jordan Gibson, Kyle Hurst and James Maxwell.
Doncaster manager Grant McCann paid tribute to the released players with a heartfelt statement.
McCann said: “I want to thank every player who will be leaving the club for what they have given during their time here.

“Each of them has played a part in our journey. They’ve given everything for the badge, day in and day out.
“Some leave us as League Two Champions and others have shown real grit and professionalism to help us compete in League One this year, but all of them have contributed to what we are building.
“On behalf of Doncaster Rovers, we wish them the best of luck for the future and every success in the next chapter of their careers.”
Sharp, though, recently insisted he has more left in the tank for one more campaign despite his advanced age.

The centre-forward revealed he was inspired by former England international Phil Jagielka, who also played until he was 40 years old.
The EFL star has also been influenced by former Sheffield United team-mate David McGoldrick, who is still shining bright for Barnsley at the age of 38.
There are also some football legends who played in their 40s, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
