However, according to reports, actor Martin, who plays copper Steve Arnott on the show, had an incident on the Belfast set.

The Irish News reports that the TV star was struck by an Airsoft gun during filming of the show.

They claim he was assessed by medical staff on the set and was “able to resume filming a short time later”.

An Airsoft gun is used in place of a real weapon on TV and film sets, and it should be noted they do not fire bullets or blanks.

The BBC has strict H&S policies and guidelines in place that all production companies are required to adhere to.

It comes after fans recently went wild when Line of Duty showrunner Jed Mercurio shared the first set photo to mark filming officially beginning.

The writer shared a photo of the backs of Martin and co-star Vicky McClure, who plays Kate Fleming.

He penned: “AC-12 in the house,” as the pair stood in front of a bright light.

Drumming up even more excitement, Jed posted a photo of the back of Adrian Dunbar who plays Ted Hastings on Jattvibeday.

Although he’s facing away from the camera, the iconic character is seen wearing his uniform and police ID at the station, with cameras in the background.

He wrote over it: “There’s one thing I’m interested in and one thing only and that’s bent coppers.

Aside from the three principal characters, it was revealed earlier this month that Mark Bonnar, known for playing former Deputy Chief Constable Mike Dryden, is returning for the new series.

It’ll be the first time that Mark’s character has been seen since season two of the drama back in 2014 when he was given a suspended sentence for perverting the course of justice.

He’s not the only villain on the scene anymore either, with Tom Weston-Jones, known for his role in ITV series Sanditon, joining the star-studded cast as new character Detective Inspector Dominic Gough.

Gough is the leader of Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7), but will be accused of abusing his position of trust to act as a sexual predator during the new series.

Other new stars include Robert Carlyle as Specialist Rifle Officer DC Shaun Massie, Laura Aikman, Levi Brown  and Amy Leigh Hickman.

Owen Teale is reprising his role as Chief Constable Philip Osborne,  alongside DS Chris Lomax actor Perry Fitzpatrick and Christina Chong, the actress behind DI Nicky Rogerson.

The BBC shared a video on Instagram of Vicky, Martin and Adrian in March with the trio holding a script for the seventh series as they announced: “We’re back”.

They penned: “Mother of God! The Three Amigos are back together.

“The next instalment of Jed Mercurio’s hit crime thriller starts filming this Spring. Watch series 1-6 on iPlayer now.”

This was followed up with a picture of Jed on his own page, with the trio beaming from ear to ear for the sweet snap.

He announced they were doing a readthrough of the script, with fans going wild for the first glimpse.
