With the opposition parties continuing with their protests in Parliament on the issues of police action on protesting students and Ram Mandir theft, the Lok Sabha passed two important Bills today in a span of 14 minutes. After a morning washout, when the Lok Sabha reconvened at 2 pm, the government piloted and passed the Bills to rename Kerala as Keralam and another to expand the powers of National Cooperative Development Corporation to directly fund entities supporting cooperatives.Right now, the NCDC can only fund cooperative societies. To finance bodies and organisations supporting cooperative infrastructure in India, the NCDC has to go through the cooperative and the state government channels. The new Bill allows NCDC to bypass the existing gap and speed up financing to the sector. A dedicated Ministry of Cooperation was set up in 2021 with Amit Shah as minister in charge. The Lok Sabha remained disrupted all day. It assembled at 2 pm and was adjourned for the day at 2.25 pm. Within these 25 minutes, the government laid important papers on the table for most part and used the remainder 14 minutes to pass two consequential draft laws as opposition MPs sloganeered.
