LOVE Island fans were left baffled as ITV2 accidentally aired the wrong advert to promote the hit show.

Before Love Island aired on Monday night, a CITV advert appeared on screen with a voiceover promoting the latest happenings in the villa.

Fans were left baffled as ‘adult content’ was promoted with the CITV logo on screen

Viewers tuning into Love Island were left taken aback because not only did the CITV advent not match up with the voiceover, but CITV closed down in 2023 and ceased all operations earlier this year.

The voiceover said: “The World Cup is all about finding the perfect match, and so is this, just with more flirting.

Viewers were quick to spot the awkward blunder and rushed to social media to discuss it.

“Did ITV mean to advertise CITV before love island..?” asked one person on X the moment it happened.

“Why did it say CITV… girl this is defo not a kids programme,” said another.

While a third penned: “As a tv nerd I cannot explain the excitement i just felt at ITV2 accidentally using the CITV ident before love island like that is sooooo hilarious.”

“What do you mean ITV2 just used a CITV ident to go into Love Island?” asked a fourth.

They then added: “Bit of an odd choice.”

CITV closed its channel in 2023, with a programming block launching on ITV2 amid its closure.

But earlier this year, it was revealed that CITV would cease to air in its usual segment on ITV2.

CITV then ceased to exist as of April 10 this year.

Children’s ITV, as it was originally known, officially launched as a programming block 42 years ago.

It served as a late-afternoon block on the ITV network.

It later launched as a standalone, 24-hour free-to-air channel in 2006.

But in 2023, the channel closed and moved to ITVX, with a programming block remaining on ITV2.

CITV famously aired several beloved children’s TV shows.

The channel and programming block aired Tots TV, Horrid Henry, Art Attack, Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids and many more hit shows.

To watch previous CITV shows, viewers can use the ITVX Kids hub via the ITVX app.
