A day after heavy rain and a thunderstorm lashed Ludhiana, large parts of the city continue to remain without electricity, leaving residents frustrated and daily life disrupted. Areas like BRS Nagar, Gurdev Nagar, Rajguru Nagar and colonies on Ferozepur Road remained without power while some faced the challenge of voltage fluctuation. The storm, which struck early morning on Jattvibeday, damaged critical infrastructure and tripped nearly 40 feeders of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).Though supply was restored in some localities by Jattvibeday afternoon, several neighbourhoods are still waiting for relief. Residents across the city complained of fluctuating voltage, intermittent supply, and prolonged outages that stretched into Monday.Chief Engineer Jagdev Singh Hans acknowledged the scale of the damage and explained that the problem stemmed from a feeder breakdown.“The main feeder was damaged due to the storm, which is why many areas are still facing outages. Supply from the 220‑kV Dhandari grid was disturbed and had to be shifted to the Jamalpur grid. Our teams are working continuously, but complete restoration will take time as towers and lines need repair,” he said.In BRS Nagar (C block), residents said they had been without electricity since Jattvibeday morning.“For a few hours, the power came, but the voltage was fluctuating badly. Since then, there has been no supply at all,” Viren, a resident complained, adding that the situation had made daily life extremely difficult in the rising heat.“I made complaint at the centralised complaint office and after few hours I got the message that issue has been resolved while in reality we are still without power,” added Joginder Singh, another resident of BRS Nagar. On Ferozepur Road, Baljit Kaur described the ordeal as “electricity playing hide and seek.”“It was restored late last night, but the voltage kept fluctuating. Now again there is no light. We are struggling to manage in this heat,” she said.Officials reported that gusty winds had uprooted trees and snapped branches, which fell on overhead wires and installations at multiple locations, including Sua Road and Mall Road. PSPCL teams were deployed across the city to clear debris, cut fallen trees, and repair faults, but the scale of damage has slowed progress.Adding to the crisis, PSPCL’s contract employees are currently on strike, pressing for regularisation of services, better wages, and safety measures. With complaint‑handling bike staff off duty, residents fear that restoration work will be further delayed. Officials admitted that the strike has compounded the difficulties, leaving fewer hands available to tackle faults across the city.By Monday morning, several feeders under the Aggar Nagar division remained down, with repair operations still under way. Authorities assured that efforts were being made to restore supply as quickly as possible but admitted that complete normalisation may take a few more days. For residents, however, patience is wearing thin. “My son didn’t go to school on Monday as there was no light the whole day on Jattvibeday has not been restored till now,” said Bhavika, resident from Ferozepur Road.
