A Chandigarh court today dismissed the anticipatory bail application of Prof Madhu Purnima Kishwar in a case registered on a complaint by a city resident alleging circulation of forged and misleading posts and obscene content via a video clip on social media. The police had registered the FIR on a complaint filed on April 19 by a city-based advocate alleging that Kishwar and certain other social media users circulated forged and misleading posts and obscene video content in regard to the head of the Government of India with the intention to damage his reputation.Damanjeet Singh, counsel appearing for Kishwar, argued that she has been falsely implicated in the case and she has no role in the alleged act. The counsel said that there has been no intention on her part to harm or injure the reputation of the constitutional authority. However, the Special Public Prosecutor argued that the bail application of the accused deserved to be dismissed. He said that her custodial interrogation is required to go to the root of the matter and to unearth as to whether it was the accused — who by creating a false account —uploaded the clip. After hearing the arguments, the court dismissed the anticipatory bail application of the accused. The court said the tweets are not innocent or light-hearted as has been contended by the accused in the bail application.
