An electric bus running between Sector 46 and 47 in Chandigarh had a narrow escape on Saturday when both its tyres suddenly came off while the vehicle was in motion.According to information, the bus, carrying around 15 passengers, was travelling from Ramdarbar towards Maloya at the time of the incident.The driver’s alertness helped bring the vehicle under control and stop it by the roadside, averting what could have been a major accident. No passenger has been reported injured.According to eyewitnesses, the bus was moving at normal speed when both its tyres suddenly came off with a loud noise. The driver immediately applied the brakes and brought the bus under control.This is not the first time safety concerns have been raised over the city’s electric buses. Earlier too, cases of technical faults, buses toppling on the road, and other mechanical defects have come to light in moving electric buses.
